Plan Your Fall Charity Lunches and Dinners for Great Celebrity Chatting Opportunities
Good morning, Live Better than a Billionaire-a-Holics!
Are you feeling motivated this morning? I certainly hope so. I know that I am!
Before getting into the substance of this post, let me remind you of my teaching plans for this month in the Boston area:
In Brookline, Massachusetts (617-730-2700)
Course V267: Raising Capital for Your New Business on September 20 and 27 (this is the expanded version of my popular course on starting a small business and can save you a fortune in capital costs!)
Course V268: Franchising Opportunities to Start a New Business on September 21 and 28 (this is a new course to help you find the right franchise operation for you) -- This course is almost sold out!
In Newton, Massachusetts (617-559-6999)
B 2172: The 2,000 Percent Solution (creating ways to accomplish 20 times as much with the same time and resources: it's like cloning yourself 20 times! -- see www.2000percentsolution.com for background)
I also offer individual tutorials and seminars on these subjects year around.
Introduction
As the last days of summer draw to a close, many people start to think about school opening. For others, the thought of autumn leaves brings a smile. Still others are getting ready to get out their warmer clothing.
Those who like to attend events with celebrities have an extra reason to be happy: Those events are about to hit full swing.
Recommendations
The horrible devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina has brought out the best in those who want to help. Celebrities are offering new and better ways to interact with them as a way of helping the Gulf coast recover from that terrible event.
1. Find a Good Source of Information about Your Favorite Celebrities' Planned Appearances.
Charities and celebrities do a better job of working together for fund-raising events than they do of publicizing those events.
The most reliable sources seem to be message boards that celebrities themselves post on. It's mostly the younger people who do this.
If the celebrity you want to meet is associated with another organization (such as a sports team), you can also contact the public relations people for the organization to find out about charitable appearances that are open to the public.
2. Track High-Profile Charities That Regularly Run Celebrity Events in Your Area.
These are often mentioned in the newspaper or on radio in advance. The largest events will often receive advance television coverage. You can also contact the charities directly to ask about what they have scheduled.
3. Look into Suburban Events.
A celebrity event in a downtown area will almost always cost more than a similar event in a suburban area. I don't know why this is often the case, but the difference in cost can be quite large. In addition, suburban events often draw smaller crowds so you can spend more time with the celebrities.
4. Consider a Trip to New York or Los Angeles.
If you don't live in a large metropolitan area, you probably don't realize that spending time with celebrities is a daily event in many locales. If you have business that you could do in New York or Los Angeles, you can probably take a personal day or a weekend and do some celebrity chatting while you're at it.
If you do this, be sure to also consider taking a course at The Learning Annex (www.learningannex.com) while you are there. These mostly inexpensive courses are often taught by celebrities. Some of them offer small group receptions and preferred seating for the class. Spending an extra $60 may be worth it to you.
5. Arrange Your Own Charitable Event and Invite Your Favorite Celebrity.
The unexpected nature of the Gulf coast problems means that celebrities realize that many events are being planned as you read this post. If all of their time isn't yet allocated, you'll probably find them more willing than ever to help out. If you are not connected to a charity now, simply contact one and ask if you can help put together a charitable event featuring a celebrity. Chances are the organization will have a development staff to advise and assist you.
Please let me know what else you would like to learn, and I'll do my best to help in future blog entries.
