Visit Historic Hotels of America
Good morning, Live Better than a Billionaire-a-Holics!
Are you feeling motivated this morning? I certainly hope so. I know that I am!
Have you ever wanted to step back into the storied past? Do you dream of marching down the halls that Commodore Vanderbilt once strode? Do you like to sleep in style?
If so, you're a great candidate to visit Historic Hotels of America!
Depending on what experience you want, these hotels can provide it . . . from providing sleeping rooms to handling your wedding anniversary.
Prices begin as low as $69 a night so many of these historic experiences can be fit into most budgets. If your budget is tigher than that, just plan a walk through . . . or stop by for a cup of coffee.
Here's a flavor of the membership.
The Red Lion Inn (where I have stayed) is a former stage coach stop that dates back to before the American Revolution. In Old San Juan, Puerto Rico, you can go back even further when you put up for the night at Hotel El Convento, a former Carmelite Convent dating back to 1651.
Some hotels are small (such as the eight room American Hotel in Sag Harbor, New York) while other are enormous (like the Waldorf-Astoria -- where I have also stayed -- in New York City with 1,425 rooms).
Settings vary as well. Some are deliciously rustic but civilized like the Ahwahnee in Yosemite National Park (where I have also stayed) while others are totally big city (like the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco where I have delighted in the hill top views).
Hotels need be only 50 years old, so if you want older hotels look more selectively.
I suggest that you think about staying in historic hotels in historic locations such as Concord's Colonial Inn in Concord, Massachusetts, The Gettysburg Hotel in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, the Nassau Inn in Princeton, New Jersey, or the Williamsburg Inn in Williamsburg, Virginia.
Here's a list of member hotels: http://www.historichotels.org/Page/FindaHotelAlphabetical.htm/.

If you like the concept and are traveling to Europe, be sure to check out Historic Hotels of America's sister organization, Historic Hotels of Europe at http://new.historichotels.org/Page/HHEurope.htm/.
If you see a ghostly figure in a white cap striding down any of these halls, say hello to the Commodore for me!
