Engage Leading Experts to Answer Your Questions for Free!
Good morning, Live Better than a Billionaire-a-Holics!
Are you feeling motivated this morning? I certainly hope so. I know that I am!
Are you curious about lots of things?
Do you like be sure you're getting the right answer to your questions?
Are you willing to spend some time instead of money to find out what you need to know?
If so, this blog post is for you.
Most billionaires are anxious not to make a big mistake. They will often consult dozens of authorities before making a key move. The cost of that information may be in the millions . . . but the application of the information may be in the hundreds of millions.
If that scale seems beyond your means, but the thoroughness appeals to you, read on.
Television shows make experts seem almost as distant from you as today's hottest actress and actor.
The reality is different.
Experts are usually anxious to expand their reputations, knowledge and contacts. That's why many experts write books, appear on television and make public appearances.
Most experts aren't overwhelmed with requests like media celebrities are. As a result, experts have time to share with others.
When you ask an expert an interesting question, you have often made their day. Your question can be a source of intellectual stimulation and delight.
Like everything, there's etiquette involved. How can you follow that etiquette and increase your chances of having your question answered?
1. Make a reasonable attempt to answer the question on your own.
Experts don't want to do other peoples' dirty work unless they are well paid for it. When you ask them to answer a question you could research on your own from their writings, they will feel less like helping.
If you look at recent articles the expert has written on your subject, it won't take long.
You can also check out the index in the expert's recent books to see if there's anything that appears to be relevant. Checking out a book in this way seldom takes longer than a few minutes.
This research will also provide you with a list of experts who may be able to help you.
2. Phrase the question in a way that builds on knowledge of their work.
For instance, management authority Dr. Peter F. Drucker often writes about how individuals should build on their strengths. If you are unsure what your strengths are in areas where you haven't tried anything yet, he would be a good person to ask about how to find out what those untried strengths are.
3. Look for public points of access to the expert.
Using the Internet, you can check for public speeches, call-in radio and television appearances, teleseminars, bulletin boards that the expert participates in and e-mail addresses for posing queries.
If you cannot find any other way to contact the expert, write to the expert via her or his agent and publisher. One or the other will forward the letter or e-mail on.
4. Prepare a little well-deserved flattery to introduce your question.
We all like to be acknowledged, and this is your chance to provide a little of that. It's a valuable coin of the realm for experts.
5. Explain why having the right answer is important.
Few people want to upset their plans for someone else's plans, but when others really need help all but the most churlish will pitch in. If you connect you question back to some important human value like saving lives, helping young people prosper or assisting the downtrodden, you'll find a more eager listener to your question.
6. Make it easy for the expert to answer your question.
Provide some choices of what will help you. Obviously, you would prefer a direct answer. But you might also ask in the alternative to be pointed to writings they have done which would steer you to the answer. If they don't have time to do even that, you might ask them to recommend someone else you could contact who might have the time and knowledge to help you. When you contact that second person, you can then use the expert's name which will open the door of hospitality wider.
7. Graciously acknowledge the help they give you.
After all, you may have another question for them someday. A thoughtful handwritten note may be cherished and kept for years by the expert.
What are you waiting for? Start asking!
Can any billionaire do better? I don't think so!
