Enjoy Historic Hotels in Europe!

Good morning, Live Better than a Billionaire-a-Holics!

Are you feeling motivated this morning? I certainly hope so. I know that I am!

Did you ever dream of waking up in a fairy tale castle?

Do you love views with romantic vistas?

Do you revel in imaging yourself where the greats once walked?

Have you ever wanted to live like royalty?

If so, this blog post is for you.

Most billionaires prefer privacy. If they want those experiences, they'll probably buy a castle or two in the old country and stock the castle with celebrity guests flown in on a private jet for the weekend.

If you amortize the cost of the castle and its upkeep over the hours spent in such joyous activities, you could easily spend $100,000 an hour. Ouch!

The opportunity for you is slightly different . . . but the cost is a lot lower.

While most people cannot become billionaires, those same people can steep themselves in romance in historic locations all over Europe . . . beating the billionaires by enjoying more sites.

Let's look at how.

1. While castles, palaces, and enormous manors are somewhat the exception in many countries, Europe positively abounds in such great old buildings. Your first step is to plan to go to Europe when it's less expensive.

The fall and spring months bring fairly good weather and cheaper air fares than during the prime summer season. You should be able to fly form the east coast of the United States to most places in Europe now for not much more than a discount flight to the west coast.

2. Become familiar with historic hotels in Europe.

A great place to start is the Web site for Historic Hotels of Europe which you can find at http://new.historichotels.org/Page/HHEurope.htm/. when you visit there, you will be pleased to see choices for Austria, France, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and Wales.

3. For the most enjoyable visit, pick a location where you can stay in an exciting historic hotel while visiting palaces, castles and great manor houses.

England and France offer many such choices. For example, you might enjoy the Eastwell Manor Hotel in Kent (http://www.eastwellmanor.co.uk/).

I was personally intrigued by the Chateau de Jallanges in the Loire valley (http://www.chateauxhotels.com/public/fiche_hotel/index.php?id=487). It's not only a private castle, you can visit many other private castles while you are there.

4. Consider timing your visit to be just after a holiday.

Rates are usually higher for holiday seasons. But you can celebrate the holiday at home, and plan to arrive just after the discount pricing begins. Most of the beautiful decorations will be up, and the staff will be glad to see you.

5. Plan to sample the local food, beers, ale and wine vintages.

Many of the best local choices aren't served in other places in the world. Ask about local specialties, and you'll have some marvelous meals you've never thought about before.

6. Follow a historic route.

With a little advanced planning, you can come up with some historical event that suits your fancy, and matches the period and the locales for the hotels you want to enjoy.

Increase your joy before you arrive by doing this research. Have you ever wanted to be Joan of Arc? Mary, Queen of Scots? Henry VIII?

Any library will reveal many good biographies that will describe where their key events occurred. Simply plot those out and tie them into your visit.

7. Look into special events at or near the hotels.

Imagine a weekend-long murder mystery in an old English manor house in the country. It's just like waking up in an Agatha Christie novel!

Or perhaps you would prefer a masked ball?

Whatever your taste is, you can probably find your perfect event. Most historic hotels in Europe advertise these under special offers on their Web sites.

Such an exciting event can increase the fantasy value for you of such a wonderful trip.

What are you waiting for? Start organizing and packing!

Can any billionaire do better? I don't think so!
