Great Spiritual Music to Soothe Your Soul

Good morning, Live Better than a Billionaire-a-Holics!

Are you feeling motivated this morning? I certainly hope so. I know that I am!

Do you enjoy listening to spiritual music?

Are you interested in having some new spiritual experiences?

Would you like to explore new dimensions of life?

If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, this blog post can help move you closer to Heaven.

Most people only listen to spiritual music when they attend a religious service.

What a waste!

Why wait until Sundays in the spring to hear Easter music? Why miss Christmas music except in November and December?

Why not fill the rest of your Sundays and week with beautifully inspiring spiritual music?

What can you do instead?

You should become your own spiritual music program director.

What does that mean?

Start by listening to all of your favorite spiritual music. Write down the spiritual thoughts and emotions you experience when you listen to each hymn, song, concerto, or symphony. Describe how strongly you feel those experiences.

Next, think about when you need to have those thoughts and feelings.

For example, if you are feeling tempted to sin in various ways, what music can help you turn away from that sin?

Experiment with different music in different situations.

Try different renditions of the music. I can remember asking my mother to stop while driving past an African American church was I was a boy to hear the incredible spirituals that were soaring from the open door. I need that music now, and just realized that I don't have any. Shame on me!

What are the lessons for you?

1. Realize that you can use music to improve your spiritual life.

2. Choose your spiritual state to serve and honor God better.

3. Improve the availability of your music reproduction choices.

4. Stop letting others choose your music for you.

5. Program every day as though you are heading a musical religious service for only one listener.

6. Become an expert on how musical choices affect you spiritually.

7. Keep improving your spiritual states by expanding your musical awareness.

8. Attend good concerts of spiritual music to deepen your reaction to the most effective music for you.

9. Remember those concert experiences when you hear the music to bring back that stronger emotional reaction.

Can any billionaire do better? I doubt it.

Billionaires are often attracted to faiths that tell them that their wealth is a sign of their blessedness. They can fall into the trap of thinking that working on their spiritual state isn't very important. That's too bad!

As Jesus once remarked, it can be easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Those riches are temptations to focus on the temporal . . . rather than the spiritual.
