Take a Beautiful, Relaxing Break from Holiday Busyness

Good morning, Live Better than a Billionaire-a-Holics!

Are you feeling motivated this morning? I certainly hope so. I know that I am!

For too many people, Christmas means fighting crowds in malls, spending too much money, being cold while walking through jammed parking lots and feeling like a miserable failure. Sound familiar? Read on.

Believe it or not, there's no law you are breaking if you don't do it that way.

In fact, the time before Christmas can be a lot of fun . . . if you plan to give yourself lots of beautiful, relaxing breaks.

To me, the key to those breaks is to remember that it's Jesus' birthday we are celebrating.

I like to ask myself, "What would Jesus do if He were here today?"

Jesus always took plenty of time for silent prayer. You can too. I like to find delightful places to pray. A beautiful church during the week can bring an enormous sense of peace. Many museums offer indoor gardens where you can bathe your ears with the sound of falling water.

Jesus also liked to be with people and help them. I have found that one of the most fun things to do in this regard is to ring a Salvation Army bell and tend a kettle. People are so happy to help out with their gifts, and you get to give them a huge smile and a hearty thanks. Whenever I can't find a kettle to tend, I just go over to donate to get some of the same wonderful feeling.

Jesus also traveled a great deal. I love seeing religious outdoor displays. I plan my errands and travels so that I can go through as many different streets and neighborhoods as possible looking for wonderful displays.

Jesus was humble. You can be, too. You don't have to try to impress people with gifts. Impress them instead with how much you care for them . . . before, during and after the holiday. They'll remember your gift of caring much more than the latest piece of soon-to-be obsolete electronic gear.

Just sit down every so often and count your blessings. God has been enormously generous with you. Thank Him! It's a great feeling.

I love Christmas carols. I try to play them as much as possible. This is especially a good thing to do while driving. Because if you are delayed by traffic, you having something more to sing about!

When you get tired, take a nap. You'll feel so much better afterwards.

Go for a nice long walk amid the prettiest scenery you can find.

Meditate more often.

Sit in quiet places and review all of your favorite Christmas memories.

And just keep smiling . . . no matter what!

Could a billionaire do better? I doubt it.

Can you imagine Christmas as a billionaire? It's got to be expensive. Warren Buffett's former daughter-in-law said that Mr. Buffett used to toss packages of stock certificates worth tens of thousands of dollars for family members to catch. Pretty spiritual, huh? And if you have a business, the number of people to remember can easily be over 100,000. It's bound to make a person feel like a slot machine that's only programmed to pay out. And what kind of presents does a billionaire receive? Probably none that she or he couldn't buy better for herself or himself. So you get to spend lots of time spending lots of money . . . and not getting much in return. Sounds delightful, doesn't it?
