Share Knowledge and Experience for More Beautiful Living
Good morning, Live Better than a Billionaire-a-Holics!
Are you feeling motivated this morning? I certainly hope so. I know that I am!
Yesterday, my good friend Randy Gilbert asked me to fill in for a guest who cancelled an interview date. Randy does a weekly Internet radio program called The Inside Success Show where people who have experienced and understand success come and share their candid comments. Listeners get a different sense of how these people approach life than they would by simply reading their books or watching them present.
Most guests treat these experiences as marketing opportunities. In fact, just before I got on the air I received an e-mail from an "expert" telling me to imagine dollar signs on the faces of people listening. What a lot of hogwash that advice was!
I wanted to enjoy the experience as a chance to share my life in a friendly and open way with my friend and listeners with whom I would like to have a relationship -- much as I do with my blog readers every day.
I did something that I rarely do for interviews. I prepared. Randy kindly gave me a chance to suggest questions and he shared the questions that he planned to use. I pulled out all of my books, presentations, notes and drafts of new books . . . and select just the most helpful, relevant and interesting material. A huge area was covered.
When the interview started, I just focused on how to share as much of my knowledge and experiences in creating 2,000 percent solutions as possible. Naturally, an hour doesn't seem like very long to sum up decades of work and thinking.
But I benefited from having just read three outstanding books by master story teller, Stephen Denning (The Springboard, Squirrel Inc., and The Leader's Guide to Storytelling). From Mr. Denning I learned to boil down key lessons into brief stories (usually less than one hundred words) that let listeners fill in the blanks and apply the lessons to their own lives.
During the hour, I had a warm feeling as I had a chance to reflect on the many wonderful people I had had a chance to work with (such as Peter Drucker who insisted that I start writing about 2,000 percent solutions), the many clients who had benefited, the students we have worked with in recent years to improve the lives of millions and accelerate world progress, knowledge and health. That feeling was enhanced when I had a chance to answer a question off the air from a listener. Further, I enjoyed the sense of having learned something as I sensed that my new story telling style was working. Some listeners gave me high marks for that.
But ultimately, it validated my sense of myself to report to new people what I have been working on. It made the day very beautiful for me.
I urge you to think about what you could share in the way of your knowledge and experience with your family, friends, colleagues and interested others. I think you'll find your life to be more beautiful when you do.
Perhaps you aren't sure what to share.
Here's a tip: Think about what you wish someone had told you that you had to learn the hard way. There will be plenty of people out there who will be glad when you share that knowledge.
Could a billionaire do better? Possibly.
